Mahatma Gandhi’s simple message of peace and nonviolence changed the world. Through his courageous acts of civil disobedience and nonviolence, an empire was felled, and a nation was freed. We must draw upon it for inspiration in our troubled times.

Gandhi’s brilliant spirit lives on in the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Project, presented by the Charlotte Asian Heritage Association (“CAHA”). CAHA, a branch of the Carolinas Asian-American Chamber of Commerce, has commissioned a statute of Mahatma Gandhi to be built in India. The statue will be placed on the corner of Tryon and 5th Street, at the Binaco building, and celebrated with a dedication ceremony on Saturday, October 14, 2006.
