15th Annual Mayor's International Community Awards

dr-john-chen-featured.jpgSince 1997, the Charlotte International Cabinet and the Office of the Mayor have hosted the Mayor’s International Community Awards. This event was created to honor the philanthropic giving and other forms of support that many of Mecklenburg County’s foreign-owned firms have given to non-profit organizations in the Charlotte area.

The MICA ceremony highlights the philanthropic accomplishments of nine finalist companies and two individual award winners that embody Charlotte's international community.

The Charlotte International Cabinet announced a new award for the 15th Annual Mayor’s International Community Awards (MICA). The awards gala will take place on Friday, May 18, 2012, at The Westin Charlotte beginning at 7pm. This year, Mayor Anthony Foxx is inaugurating the Global Leader Award to recognize Dr. John Chen. As the first Global Leader Award winner, Dr. Chen embodies the spirit of Charlotte’s global significance and displays strong leadership in Charlotte’s international community. He cultivates awareness of the growing diversity of Charlotte through his involvement in Carolinas Asian American Chamber of Commerce, Crossroads Charlotte and Charlotte E.A.S.T..

Additionally, Mr. Philip Maung, President and CEO of Hissho Sushi, will be presented with the Patrick McCrory International Entrepreneur Award. The Mayor’s International Community Awards were established 15 years ago as a way to encourage foreign-owned firms to adopt corporate philanthropy as a business practice and to engage locally by giving back to the Charlotte community.

The MICA awards are coordinated by the Charlotte International Cabinet in conjunction with the Office of the Mayor. Table and sponsorship information can be obtained by visiting the Charlotte International Cabinet’s website www.CharlotteInternational.org.
